The Latin American and Caribbean Section of IFLA is organizing this satellite meeting before the World Library and Information
Congress at OCLC Headquarters. The main Satellite Meeting goal is to discuss the future of libraries (political, economic and
social) and its impact on collection development and service provision to users in any region of the world.
We welcome research papers, best practices, case studies or poster proposals with innovative and practical perspectives on
current and forward looking approaches to the future of libraries and its impact on collections and services to users in
Latin America, The Caribbean (LAC) and the world in the next 15 years. The sub-topics (not exhaustive and not restricted
to LAC) are:
1. Year 2030: How might Latin American and Caribbean libraries be?
2. How may libraries of the world be in 15 year time?
3. Future of library budgets
4. Role of libraries in communities of the future
5. Will library collections exist?
6. What advocacy is needed to keep libraries leading in the information service arena?
7. What information services will libraries provide in 2030
8. Future information needs of library users
9. Change management/innovation in regard to library collections and services
10.Changing information needs and innovative information services to education
How to submit a proposal
Interested persons are invited to submit a proposal for a paper and presentation of 20 minutes on the topics listed above,
as well as poster presentations.
The conference presentations may be given in Spanish or English (funding for simultaneous interpreting has been requested).
Proposals may be sent in both languages.
The initial proposal should be not more than 500 words long (1 page), be submitted in electronic format, and be accompanied
by a brief bio of the author(s), 150 words maximum. Paper length will between 10 to 15 pages, and posters standard size will
be 24″ x 36″(60 X 90 cm).

Evaluation process. First phase includes evaluation of abstracts, and Second Phase
includes evaluation of full papers. The evaluation will be based on content quality: Pertinence, theoretical base,
methodology, or best practice originality.
No travel funding. IFLA LAC is unfortunately not able to provide travel/conference funding
to speakers, so please make sure to have the financial resources to attend WLIC
The following schedule will be applied:
15 February 2016: Deadline to submit abstract proposals
29 February 2016: Notification of abstract acceptance
15 April 2016: Deadline for authors to submit the paper/poster
30 April 2016: Notification of paper/poster acceptance and potential changes
30 May 2016: Final paper/poster submission
August 11, 2016: Meeting
Spring 2017: Publication of the proceedings (Funding is being sought)
